With the introduction of a world ranking for athletics a few years ago, the requirements for meeting organizers have also increased. For indoor events like the Jump-Meeting Cottbus, this means: Athletes can only earn points for the world ranking at meetings that are part of the World Indoor Tour. Events are classified according to Gold, Silver, and Bronze status. The requirements for the meetings range from the minimum number of nationalities to the amount of prize money offered. The costs for travel, accommodation, and meals must be covered. Transport to and from the airport, as well as from the hotel to the competition venue, must be arranged. Strict criteria are also set for doping controls – in Cottbus, at least four are required. A meeting doctor is responsible for the medical care of the athletes. In Cottbus, athletes can also make use of physiotherapy services.
A measurement office must verify and officially confirm the correct dimensions of the pole vault and high jump facilities before the competition. This ensures that national and international records, as well as meeting the standards for international competitions, can be recognized.
The European Athletics Association sends an official to Cottbus to verify the compliance with all of these regulations on-site.
The costs for all of these requirements are borne by the meeting organizer. Many of these criteria have been met by the Jump-Meeting from the very beginning – long before the World Indoor Tour existed. They are one of the reasons why athletes keep coming back to Cottbus, as the organizing team creates a very special, welcoming atmosphere.
