You can’t get more experience behind the mic than this: Dr. Karsten Holland and Robert Fekl are co-hosting the Springer Meeting this year. Both have been active in sports broadcasting since the 1990s.

Robert Fekl was at the Lausitz Arena for the first time last year and is still enthusiastic about the atmosphere: “Even if you can get a first impression from the really good livestream from afar—the experience in person is indescribable.” He especially remembers one moment: “When the audience carried Christina Honsel, who went all in at 1.95 meters, over the bar. That was absolutely insane—pure goosebumps!”

Dr. Karsten Holland also looks forward to moments like these. He is actually a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery and serves as the team doctor for the German men’s national volleyball team. “I’ve heard from many athletes that they enjoy the amazing atmosphere in Cottbus. There are only two disciplines here, so the athletes get full attention.”

As moderators, both men are accustomed to very different settings: European and World Championships, various marathons, ISTAF and ISTAF Indoor in Berlin. Yet, a smaller arena is always something special, as Karsten Holland has experienced: “The spectators sit closer, and you can immediately feel their reactions. I’m really looking forward to interacting with the fans.” Robert Fekl already knows from last year why that’s so enjoyable: “The atmosphere in the Lausitz Arena is truly unique—and the audience is so enthusiastic.”
