Christina Honsel: A New Face in Cottbus

She has been among Germany's top high jumpers for several years, but until now, she hadn’t had the chance to compete in Cottbus. Finally, Christina Honsel will be taking part in Cottbus – and she is especially looking forward to “the lively crowd that lifts the athletes higher.”
The 27-year-old almost hung up her high jump shoes for good. The years 2021 and 2022 were nearly entirely consumed by injuries – and she began to question if it was all worth it. She set one final goal: her dream of competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics. On her way there, she achieved fourth place at the World Indoor Championships – and ultimately finished sixth in Paris. It was the highlight of her best season so far.
She kicked off the new indoor season on January 12. At a meeting in North Rhine-Westphalia, she had a strong start with a jump of 1.90m. “In Cottbus, I want to build on this strong start – and of course, jump even higher.” Because in the end, like every high jumper, her goal is the two-meter mark. With her personal best indoors, she is just two centimeters away from that goal...
