New Meeting, New Voice: This year, the competition proceedings will be led by Robert Fekl from Berlin. The 57-year-old brings a wealth of experience: He has been behind the microphone for 30 years, covering various sports. For the past ten years, he has worked full-time as the press chief at SCC Events, which organizes events such as the Berlin Marathon.
He has already heard about the great atmosphere at the Cottbus Jump-Meeting: "I’m really excited about the legendary atmosphere in the Lausitz Arena. The enthusiasm of the crowd must be fantastic."
Robert Fekl has been involved in athletics since his youth: he started as a middle-distance runner at SC Brandenburg and later played in the volleyball regional league for TSV Spandau 1860. These would later become the two sports he most frequently covers with the microphone – alongside swimming and modern pentathlon.
As an athletics fan, he is particularly passionate about two athletes who have already made their mark in the sport: the former Ethiopian long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassie – "a running legend with contagious warmth" – and current pole vault sensation Armand Duplantis – "because he is setting new standards."
