Just in time for the 21st Jump-Meeting, the new sports flooring has arrived in Cottbus. It was specially made for the Lausitz-Arena and funded by the city of Cottbus. The old flooring had become unusable after 20 events, and the world governing body pushed for improvements.
The parquet in the Lausitz-Arena is unsuitable for high jumpers and pole vaulters because they jump with spikes on their shoes. This damages the parquet and provides insufficient grip for the athletes. Therefore, every year a special sports floor is laid down exclusively for the Springer-Meeting, whose cushioning effect also helps to prevent injuries and joint overloads for the athletes.
After 20 events, the previous flooring had taken a significant toll – a new one was needed. The city of Cottbus gladly took on the investment, which amounted to a higher five-figure sum, as reported by sports department head Thomas Bergner: "Without the new mats, the meeting would have been at risk. And I believe Cottbus is doing the right thing by preserving the uniqueness of this event."
