Once again, on 28 January 2026 Lausitz-Arena will be the scene of a very special high jump competition: The current world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh will be attending. A great confirmation that Cottbus offers best conditions for world class athletes.
Every meeting director wants to have this athlete in the competition – and for
the fifth time Cottbus has this honour and the pleasure of her company. Not
only is she a successful athlete. Since war has started in her home country the
24 year old has become the symbolic figure of a proud Ukraine, confidently
fighting for her country in her own way.
2024 was the year of Yaroslava Mahuchikh – and it started with a fantastic win
in Cottbus and a clearance of 2.04m. In the following summer she became
European and Olympic Champion, increased the 37-year-old world record to
2.10m and was chosen as Female World Field Athlete of the Year by World
Athletics.
In January 2025 she tried a late start into the indoor season. The Cottbus
meeting took place without her. We are all the more pleased to welcome her
again this time. The shared history of Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Cottbus Jump
Meeting dates back to 2019. Back then, she became 4th jumping 1.96m. We are looking forward to witnessing how 2026 will start for her at Lausitz-Arena.
